I generally favor more universal programs because they are historically harder to defund. Then, if balancing the budget becomes an issue, raising taxes/ closing loopholes for billionaires could more than make up for it on the back end. But the general concept is a good one.

My tax money already goes to subsidize maize monocultures that displace native ecosystems and result in exorbitant amounts of corn syrup in foods, why can it not be used to fund education instead?

It should not be $2,000. It should be $4,000 minimum, tied to inflation. And universal because universal programs always seem to last longer.

Even cloud seas have rising tides it seems.
