We value equity at a framework and policy level, but when it comes to implementing change on the ground we don’t have enough inclusive teaching support staff, who don’t have the capacity to develop systematic training or resources. The work is left to the individual to make it happen. #LTHEChat

A5: There can be too many cooks in the kitchen sometimes, I find it’s easier to get more done when there’s a core of 2-3: an academic, educational designer, and another third space professional depending on need (academic skills, EDI support, librarian, etc). #LTHEChat

A3: Work iteratively, and reduce the assessment load. At least in our context, we historically over-assess, so reducing this reduces the burden on both students and educators.

A2: Mapping the hidden curriculum and making the map available to students. This makes the less explicit skill and values development clear from the start of the course. #LTHEchat

I imagine sometimes the feedback is sought as a tick box and so the changes never happen. Alternatively, sometimes it not appropriate to implement the changes requested, but it’s till important to communicate that.

A4: Time, mental space and workload. Redundancies happen and workloads double. New problems come along and we upskill and change whole curricula for (Hi genAI 👋). We are not given time but we are expected to poke it all into the non-existent windows of time between teaching and research. #LTHEchat
