The Pokémon book looks like it's from that era between gen 1 and 2 where people were like OH SHIT PIKABLUE IS THE NEXT MASCOT

And then it was just called Marril, wasn't that sought after, and nobody really cared ever again

I was very distracted by finding this which means I DEFINITELY forgot something important at the grocery store.

Oh well, I have a bitchin toy now

"HEY WHATS GOING ON UP THERE? THAT SOUNDS LIKE TOO MANY POLYGONS, YOU BOYS ARE GOING TO BE GROUNDED FOR LIFE IF YOU DONT TURN THAT OFF RIGHT NOW"

Imagine getting grounded in 2025 for not rewinding a vhs tape before putting it back

It's happening in that house as we speak

I'd imagine so, biting each one along the way to authenticate it

Did someone say something about grand turismo on ps1? I couldn't here you over the immaculate soundtrack of ridge racer type 4

(But yeah gt rules too)

Absolutely, it's like if a kid wanted to get in to cars...you might be able to find them a junker to fix and tinker with. I can see games being like that, it's just more practical.

This guy wasn't trying to give his kid a car to fix, he was making his kid walk to school because that's what he did.

Yeah that makes sense to me, it's what I would probably do if I had a kid.

I will be an uncle for the first time soon and the kids father (my brother) is a retro gamer so I'm sure the little one will be naturally well versed in the classics before she's ready to move on to other types of games.

I would cut them a little slack if they didn't figure it out at first because that was many families first vertical disc drive

But nobody bothered reading the manual in that household. That's just common sense after a certain point.

Want to know why this one worked? They paid someone to set it up at their house and test it. That person pointed out to them that the original 2 consoles were probably fine, they were just putting the game discs in the wrong way.

Sorry for the ramble but sometimes those random memories hit

Strangely, the same problem happened with the second one. What are the odds of that? They finally got a THIRD Wii, by some miracle and wouldn't you know: it worked!

Fun side note about my schools example of that kid/dad growing up.

He was lucky and got a Nintendo Wii when they first came out and were impossible to get. None of their games worked so they returned it and had enough luck leftover for the store to have a console in stock that they could exchange

It's so weird! I say that as a millennial myself.

It's the same vibe as those overly aggressive sports parents who have professional aspirations for their 10 year old and don't allow them to do anything else besides school and sport because they themselves failed to be a professional athlete.

I think I can see the problem here.

You went ahead and named yourself Dumb Penguin.

Maybe you would hold more influence over the youngster if you were to be named something like Uncle Genius or even Uncle advanced law degree.

Classic

Does he listen to gaming advice from uncle now?
