I almost feel like people think "no homelessness" is one of the services they are paying for when they live in the suburbs. Something similar to having your street plowed or your leaves picked up.

My biggest piece of holiday cooking advice is, never try to cook a dish for the first time on a holiday. The people you live with you should get a preview of this year's new dish as you practice a time or two.

A few years ago I had to clandestinely salvage the mashed potatoes another family member volunteered to make. They were too mashed to be rustic so just lumpy but also dry. Under the guise of heating them back up I added a bunch more dairy and quickly mashed the hell out of them

And even outside of HCOL markets, lifestyle creep is a real thing and while people suffering a cash crunch from that can easily right the ship, in the moment it feels like money is really tight.

The sweet spot is faster than driving but not that much slower than flying when airport garbage is factored in. Currently, I think the River Runner from KC to STL and the Acela from Philly to Boston are good examples of this.

I always have two points on this.

First, when calculating flying time, people who are arguing in good faith should include the time of airport garbage in the flying time, not just gate to gate time.

Second, what you are really competing with on many routes is driving time.
