In Canada a contract is invalid if it is illegal. This includes common law as well as statutory law, or at least that was the case when I studied law for professional engineers 30 years ago.

Civil law jurisdictions being pretty much anywhere not touched by the British Commonwealth. And civil law is not Napoleon's legacy either, Finland out chilling with a Bürgerliches Gezetsbuch and Swedish law mix just chilling out and staring at you.

New Zealand maintains the “inalienable rights are inalienable” line to so it definitely a thing within the Commonwealth even if it’s not Common Law
