Bad grits is a horror none of us deserve.

Few things are scarier.

I really love your takes here. I suspect any character that’s coming across as 100% “good” or 100% “evil” because we are all on some spectrum between the two.

Absolutely and the ONLY representation for most of literary history.

Good grits are slow cooked stone ground grits as my books make perfectly clear. Instant grits ain’t even grits, I don’t care what the box says.

It’s entirely possible for a person to encounter just “bad” people in a story or in real life. You’re not saying there ain’t any good ones…you’re saying there ain’t any good ones here. Entirely plausible and a truth.

If a story is about “bad” people it doesn’t necessarily imply there are no “good” people. I ain’t got time to soothe your feelings.

I’m thinking of this because someone took issue with how I portray southerners in my work. As if I my work must portray a universal southern experience rather than the narrow one that exists in my story. 3/4
