I like ATLA, the show. I do not like TLA, the set, as it released. Continuing to put out standard-legal UB sets is doing something wrong. It should have gone straight to modern and only lightly impacted the format, but still be available to fans for EDH play, like Assassin’s Creed

I must have missed that Homestuck flash

If this is a cEDH deck, fine. Probably even a bit high. For any other bracket, increase that figure by two lands for each bracket lower

I have a brand to uphold and repeats are apparently against the rules

I read this thinking it was pretty mid —combat damage plus three mana to impulse draw once? — until I reached “without paying its mana cost”. Lmao. Great commander

Lol, fair. Do you also hope to cascade into Brainstorm in that deck to set up next turn’s cascade? It seems a similar vibe of value :p

So you pay eight mana to draw a card. Usually you get at least two cards for eight mana?

1. Edge of Eternities (!)
2. Tarkir: Dragonstorm (Jace died)
3. Aetherdrift (good story, bad set)
4. Through the Omenpaths (as cool as getting a new core set was, it featured only new characters and the spiders theme was weird)
No other Magic sets were released this year, to my knowledge

Golos was not only the best WUBRG commander, but the best commander for basically any strategy at the time. Having a land tutor in the command zone was great for lands decks, but even just using the ability as repeatable ramp made him incredibly powerful and resilient at the head of any deck

Making awful commanders work can be silly. Putting notoriously strong commanders at the head of completely different strategies that make them fair can be silly. Nyla is neither awful nor strong, so willfully ignoring what makes him interesting is not silly, it is confusing and sad

Mono-black X-drops is a fine idea, but Nyla’s recursion is frankly awful if that is all you want out of your commander. Five mana for an enters trigger, then an end step trigger to get a single card back. You could play Viconia with Scion of Halaster for recursion that is better for the strategy

Casual can mean anything outside of cEDH, and some people use it to mean everything outside of cEDH. MLD and lockout decks are not in the meta, they are not competitive, so they are casual. I agree with this on technicality, which is why brackets are the most important part of rule zero

But then that entirely bypasses the interesting part of the ability. The point is not getting one creature back next end step, it is exiling Draco or Shadow of Mortality from your graveyard and creating fifteen Clue tokens

I loved his story in Origins. What a series of events to put a kid through to produce a delightfully twisted character. Also, his interaction with Chandra in BFZ was hilarious. “We’re strategizing, but you’re not listening, so sure go roast some Eldrazi” XD

What was his plan that got him scattered across the multiverse? What was he actually trying to do?

No, it is pretty clearly a Gonti-style “exile and cast later” theft effect. Hama just adds waterbending instead of the usual “may spend mana of any type” clause

I would be more worried about guaranteeing someone has an Essence Flux

But if you mean “what if all lands were rainbow lands”, then there is less downside. But having to choose a commander with higher colors can be a negative. Perhaps you are missing out on a more synergistic piece in the command zone that is fewer colors. There are less 3+ color commanders

Even with my manabases, I notice that I have to mulligan more often with 3+ color decks. Sometimes the cards need colors on turns the lands do not produce, sometimes hands lack a color of mana entirely. And in deckbuilding, I am much more hesitant to include cards with multiple pips in mana costs

I had this one game with a guy who only brought bracket four and five decks with him. The rest of us only had bracket two and three decks, but were willing to go into a game with him as archenemy. *The guy tutored Blood Moon with his f i r s t tutor.* What a terrible non-game
-E

I do not build for bracket 4, all of my multicolor decks have manabases optimized for fun games (the ability to cast spells) usually with only a basic of each color for Path to Exile / Assassin’s Trophy effects. I appreciate the pregame discussion for bracket 3 Blood Moon
