And let's not forget the Georgia case itself! Who else could be publicly caught with the smoking- gun taped call in which he asks the Georgia Sec. of State (overseeing state elections) to find the exact # of votes that he lost by in GA, & then makes veiled threats when he won't?

We all heard it!!
So, for the first time since our constitution went into effect in 1789 (236 yrs ago) a POTUS tried to nullify his election loss & become a Putin or Xi; encouraged a mob to attack the Capitol; & ignored calls for hanging his VP, & once more he skates away unrepentant??

You can't make this up! If I had tried to write a dystopian script before he emerged in '15, Hollywood woukd have said it was unrealistic:
* pardoning over 2k criminals who desecrated the Capitol
* waging lawfare against anyone who investigated or charged him (Comey, Smith, etc.)

Rule of law??

Well, I am happy for their sake! It was lawless to fire the prosecutor who refused to charge, then appoint a new one, who of course immediately brought charges.

But it's a technical win: I'd rather the decision be based on malicious prosecution & the 1st Amendment.

David Frum is an amazing writer who can take a current news story and contextualize it, and describing the bigger picture for us mere mortals.

In his telling, MTG is almost a Shakespearean figure, whose tragic flaw was that she was a true MAGA believer.

Remember when the GOP impeached Bill Clinton, saying he had besmirched the Office by immoral conduct?

Well, since Trump entered politics in 2015, it has become acceptable to make racist, transphobic, & misogynistic remarks. NO NEED TO WHISPER!

As a Catholic & an historian, I am aware of all the times that the Church has been on the wrong side of moral issues. In fact, it has at times perpetuated grave injustices (see anti-semitism, the Inquisition, etc.)

But yesterday, the Church landed on the right side.

This simple article requires very little comment.

Remember that Trump is probably in violation of the "Emoluments" Clause of the Constitution. Dems in Congress claimed there were $7.8 million in payments from foreign govt.s to Trump-owned businesses.

Some of the milestones we've passed on the road to fascism this year.

So History repeats: Hitler had a meeting with 25 industrialists when he took office who pledged financial support for business favors.

Musk, Zuck, & Besos sat with Trump when he was sworn in.

What if the Big Law Firms Hadn’t Caved to Trump?
www.newyorker.com/news/the-led...

Pol. scientists call it "anticipatory obedience". Trump only had to attack 2 or 3 institutions in each category to force compliance: Harvard & Columbia; attorneys Perkins & Cole; ABC & CBS in defamation suits, etc.
What if the Big Law Firms Hadn’t Caved to Trump?
It’s not inconceivable that, had the firms resisted the President’s executive orders, his momentum for lawlessness might have been curbed.
