Pretty sure she's talking about "The Darkest Part of the Forest" by Holly Black. If not, she's talking about a book with the exact same subplot.

The most painful part of it is that it was only ever going to work once. If a Batman or Spider-Man movie goes wrong? Give it four years, they'll take another swing at it. But I don't think we're ever getting another attempt at WATCHMEN.

Literally ran out of the room during that scene.

I just finished eagerly recapping the episode to my wife who was too scared to watch it. It ruled! Great work!

I think what people are upset about is that "did not foster constructive discourse" is a) putting it way too mildly and b) still very much stands in opposition to "doing politics right."

Surely doing politics right would mean fostering constructive discourse. No?

As a long-time Klein defender, I gotta say this might be the straw the straw that broke the camel's back. Just disgraceful

Unbelievably disappointing.

JFC dude, there is a lot to criticize the Israeli government about, but if you can't do it without defending Nazi catchphrases, maybe sit this one out. You are not helping. I can't believe you can't see that.

I mean, you are now actively backing away from the quote as it exists and instead arguing for a different axiom, which I suppose would be "sometimes in some places there are people in power who can't be criticized, and sometimes that's bad."

...okay. Sure. Defend that instead of the Nazi one.

I am pointing out, as simply as possible, that there are groups who you "cannot criticize" that by no stretch of the imagination rule the world.

That's all.
August 18, 2025 at 11:35 PM
Sure. Let's try a different avenue.

"'Mentally handicapped adults' rule the world."

Do you see how ridiculous that sounds?

Same. The pain never really goes away. Not sure how this has relevance to this conversation though.
