Exactly. No-one refused to watch Batman vs Superman because Batman retired in the previous film.

The Mad Max approach to continuity.

That's handy - thank you.

It must be forty-some years since I saw that. Coincidentally, I've just finished watching the BBC version estlier today. Do you know if the cartoon's available to buy?

"It's the end. But the Sex Cardigan has been prepared."

By and large, places I'd like to go on holiday are places where I used to live. If I go back there, it'll be to go to places I went to when I lived there.

Very much this. Being noticed equals being judged.
November 26, 2025 at 6:10 PM
Ok, that's worth knowing - thank you. With regard to From Russia, it's specifically the pre-title sequence where Bond's being stalked through the grounds of a stately home.

English. Not Enhlish. What the hell, autocorrect?
November 26, 2025 at 3:10 PM
Must admit I've still not seen it. As I grow older, I find non-Enhlish language films with subtitles to be harder to watch, which is frustrating. As a bit of trivia, I first heard of Marienbad when the director of From Russia With Love cited it as an influence.
November 26, 2025 at 3:09 PM
I assume Warrors Gate? Pretty sure the director's mentioned Marienbad as an influence.

Yes. Also the Patrician. And Moist. There's a thought. To what extent is Discworld the story of people being bastards so they can make the lives of others better? And of unlikely people - a drunk, an assassin, a conman - having hidden depths?
November 25, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Exactly. Vimes may not be a good man, but he damn well makes sure he acts like one. There's a line somewhere - it may be in Pratchett or it may be someone writing about him - to the effect that Vimes is a bastard, but he makes certain he's no more of a bastard than absolutely necessary.

Peter Capaldi to voice Rob Anybody.
November 25, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Yeah, animation would make that easier, I suppose.
November 25, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Since she's gone, Helen Mirren. Mads Mikklesen as The Patrician. Tom Baker as Death. Don Warrington as Ridcully. Bill Bailey as the Bursar.
November 25, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Live action for me. With the books being combined so that Guards Guards is happening at the same time as Witches Abroad and Mort and Light Fantastic, so the tv series cuts between them. Christopher Eccleston as Sam Vimes. Miriam Margolyes as Nanny Ogg. Maggie Smith would've been Geanny Weatherwax.
November 25, 2025 at 8:58 PM
I'd have told HBO that Discworld was their next big fantasy series after Game of Thrones. If I had any faith that they wouldn't bugger it up.
November 25, 2025 at 8:48 PM
Dickens, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Brontë... Also, R*wl*ng's writing about poverty basically consists of "Harry was poor until he found he was rich. Ron wore hand-me-downs. Lol."
November 25, 2025 at 8:46 PM
In my case, I'll die and then Gary Oldman'll avenge me. If he can be bothered.
November 25, 2025 at 8:42 PM
Oh, we very much could - just by looking at the tv section of my dvd shelves.
