Countless historic events have happened over the last decade, and I can safely say that this particular part of the US Government/Houthi leak will live rent-free in my head for the rest of my life:

I can't stop thinking about Path of Exile 2. The main image (or video sequence) from this week's presentation that lives rent-free in my head is the reveal of the Atlas endgame system.

Its sheer clarity and simplicity are just mindblowing.

At this stage, the knife already looked incredible.

However, a bit of wood oil did glorious things to the walnut handle. The final result looks FANTASTIC and much better than anything I'd imagined before starting this project!

TL;DR: 10/10 experience, can recommend crafting your own knife. :)

Three diamond whetstones were used to sharpen the blade. After some rough sanding work, slowly sharpening away was very meditative.
Last but not least, I sanded and polished everything manually to remove the remaining bumps.

The wood block also needed some serious sanding. I needed some help during this step because I was too scared of destroying the whole project!

In the next step, I burned a hole into the block of walnut wood - with the handle-end! - that eventually became the knife's handle.
After that and some intense copper filing, we glued together the wood block, the handle-end, and the copper highlight in-between.

I sanded the handle-end first to get a feel for my material and the machine. Then I put the knife into a mount to keep the correct angle for sanding the whole blade. After a dozen times, the polished steel look slowly became visible!

The mini-forge looks ridiculous here but it was fucking HOT, especially after two hours of on-and-off reheating and hammering. The first result already looked like some sort of knife, though!

I made some cuts to create the knife's point and handle-end, which then needed to be hammered into shape again.

I made a Nordic knife today and promised I'd share some impressions and the final result!
For the knife itself, I've used parts of a big truck steel spring and hammered it into shape over an hour or so.

The system had its flaws (paying rent for your house was a pain in the ASS to the point where you could lose your whole house AND THE LOT), but housing in Dark Age of Camelot was so, so immersive when it was released.
November 15, 2024 at 11:42 PM
In that zone, players were able to buy lots and build their houses on their lot. The early days were chaotic but also very immersive - because right after the housing patch had dropped, lots were SUPER expensive! (image shows one PART of the whole zone - it was beeg!)

Okay one more thing because I wanna try hashtags over here #warcraft #worldofwarcraft

This week, Blizzard has finally announced that HOUSING is coming to WoW! I'm super happy about that, so I wanted to talk about my favorite take on player housing, implemented by a game called Dark Age of Camelot.
