context is dead. curiosity is a absent. reality, rejected outright.
my favourite was when I was accused of being a 'MAGA plant' - some folks don't want to know what's going on around them, they just want to start flinging shit in all directions.

i find immense joy in addressing our cat in the same fashion - like he's a belligerent patron:
"sir? sir? excuse me sir - you can't just be on the counters like that, sir? SIR. stop eating the spider plant, sir."

Why stop with eyeglasses and laptops? Let's call for an end to schoolbusses. Kids need more fresh air and exercise, and walking to school provides both.

It's easy to appeal to emotion and nostalgia and make half-baked arguments that everything new is bad and should be axed across the board.

Let's get rid of schoolbusses, too. It's better for kids to walk to school - they get more exercise and more fresh air.

...it's really dumb to take a highly curated sliver of fact and extrapolate it into a broad, universal declaration that appeals more to emotion than it does to equity.

profoundly uncomfortable with the notion that the universe is vast and uncaring, that so little is actually within our control and luck ultimately tips the scales - they comfort themselves by insisting that the folks living rough in tents must deserve it, or have simply chosen not to be comfortable.

"it doesn't bother me on principle that i'm sharing the city with people who cannot access the basic necessities of life, i just don't want to *see* it"

more ideological bullshit about reverse engineering the fundamental worth of a human being from their outcomes.

and it's always the quality-of-life, highly visible stuff that doesn't actually cost that much to administer that the idiots cut first.

you gotta be brave, have a real vision, and have the ability to communicate it to get things done.
reactionary cowards are not it.

if we just cut services to the bone and slash staff so we can keep taxes low, it'll all be okay, right?
you'll all still vote for me, right?

right?

there's a lot more going behind that dog's eyes than fallon's

that was a short-lived change of ownership

It truly doesn't matter if the article is slightly less on the side of the fucking child rapist - this is the editorial framing that sells the piece and far more people will see this block of text than will read the piece.
The NYT has become absolute trash and this is goddam appaling.
