Scientist, painter, raconteur. That last one means I like telling stories about raccoons, and says nothing about my parents.
Ignoring you since 1961: Analtech, supplier of TLC plates to the chem industry. Always gives me a little chuckle.

Thank you! There’s a number of them out there, I’ve seen it done on dragon’s wings a wizard cloaks. I’m not sure why I thought to try it in her!

The “speed” or abruptness of the transition from light to dark helps convey the reflectivity. This reads as very satin-like to me, I like it. If you want it to look more like a cotton or wool, blend more mid tones and knock down the high highlights.

That dude shredded guitar in a way most metalheads, flat pickers, thrashers and the like could only dream of… if you’re into guitar virtuosity, you owe it to yourself to search out some of his stuff!

Super! Another “trick” is to make your shadows more interesting by using the opposite side of the color wheel from the incoming light. You have a yellow/red incoming light, so working a blue to teal color into your shadows (keep the values low, but saturation high) will make them pop!

Also, go back and add darklining to sharpen all of the edges between materials. Usually that will help you see where to push the highlights more as well.

Lovely work! I think you need to balance the blue in the composition more. Right now, it’s only in one place. Because it’s in high contrast with all of the reds and yellows, use it to move the eye around the piece, ideally in two more locations.
