The National Emergency Briefing explained how the climate emergency is affecting us as a nation and as a global civilisation. Sheffield was represented by Olivia Blake MP, but it was disappointing that other local MPs did not accept the invitation.

Despite all the budget cuts they have faced, I was very pleased to find that they were able to purchase and loan me a copy. What a great service! The book is an important contribution to the debate about two of the greatest crises our species has ever faced: climate change and worldwide pandemics.

Current economic models... were wildly optimistic. “Some are saying we’ll have a 10% GDP loss at between 3C and 4C degrees [of global heating], but the physical climate scientists are saying the economy and society will cease to function as we know it. That’s a big mismatch”
William Nordhaus received the Nobel Memorial Prize for these flawed economic models, and Bjorn Lomborg built a highly lucrative career on them.
