Call for an urgent televised national emergency briefing
by Graham Wroe Photo credit Liz Pendleton of Media Revolution On Thursday 27th of November, 1200 people gathered in Central Hall, Westminster,  including more than a hundred and fifty parliamentarians and leaders from business, culture and the media. The National Emergency Briefing explained how the climate emergency is affecting us as a nation and as a global civilisation. Sheffield was represented by Olivia Blake MP, but it was disappointing that other local MPs did not accept the invitation.

Imagine living on a planet at its hottest in 125,000 years, where CO2 levels are their highest in MILLIONS of years & where you have to work your whole life in a system that’s decimating what little is left of nature just to enrich the most depraved psychopaths who’ve ever lived.

This is the report I spoke of on #bbcaq just now - ministers tried to suppress it, were finally forced to release it after an FoI, but shamefully only published a redacted version. The first duty of Govt is to protect its citizens - that starts with being honest with us about scale of threat we face

This is essential reading for all policy makers - and it’s exactly what many of us have been warning about for years. Our current economic model is simply incompatible with a safe & secure future. We can’t bail out the Earth like we did the banks

I wanted to read Michael Mann and Peter Hotez's new book, Science Under Siege, but as the paperback hasn’t released yet, I requested it from Sheffield Central Library. Despite all the budget cuts they have faced, I was very pleased to find that they were able to purchase and loan me a copy. What a great service! The book is an important contribution to the debate about two of the greatest crises our species has ever faced: climate change and worldwide pandemics.

Peter Mandelson, Palantir & government cosying up to tech billionaires: NHS contract is key, but many more questions to ask, I said in #HouseofLords.

Response: "If there is anything in these papers at all to indicate that further investigation to get to the truth is needed, that will be taken."

We're really proud of the platform we've built at Bold Politics in just four months and whilst we've loved having the hosts of Match of the Day and Loose Women on, it's also important that we share the stories of people without platforms too.

Current economic models... were wildly optimistic. “Some are saying we’ll have a 10% GDP loss at between 3C and 4C degrees [of global heating], but the physical climate scientists are saying the economy and society will cease to function as we know it. That’s a big mismatch”
William Nordhaus received the Nobel Memorial Prize for these flawed economic models, and Bjorn Lomborg built a highly lucrative career on them.
They told rich and powerful people what they wanted to hear.
While helping to consign us all to catastrophe.

I have sent the following Freedom of Information request to see the uncensored report by the Joint Intelligence Committee about our national security. See Jonathon Fuller talking about this here. Jonathon says, "If there was a grave threat to life, would you expect Government Ministers to keep it to themselves (and protect their own families), or would you expect the government to share knowledge with everyone so we can all make important life decisions?

Mandleson "undermined democracy with the full backing of Government"
1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵
