The UK Government, like its predecessor, has not learnt that if you surround yourself with party political advisors, rather than independent professionals, you can never rely on having truth spoken to power. The Mandelson debacle is just one part of this.

Trump says climate change is a hoax. Few people will challenge him though it is the most serious threat that all of us face. The science has been validated by thousands of scientists over 40 years. The first prime minister to accept it was Margaret Thatcher- she had a science background.
