I went out to feed the feral kitty we've been looking after for the last few years and saw a lil bee sitting motionless in the entrance to her feeding hut 😟 A teaspoon of sugary water and she was happily tucking in. 15 mins later she flew off! 🐝😊

The results are in for our ASHP for 2024. We have a combined SCoP of 4.4 (heating + HW) for the whole year which I am happy with. If we exclude hot water the SCoP is 4.7. I will caveat this with this is built in monitoring.

So this morning at 07:00 to 09:00 Octopus Energy were giving away free electricity over and above standard usage for that day/time because of all the excess renewable with it being so windy. Obviously the best thing to do is dump electricity to the grid before hand and then charge up for free! 😜

Those of you familiar with my Twitter posts from when I had our air-to-air system(s) installed will know I have had no end of trouble with these. When they work they're great, but we have had numerous refrigerant leaks and it seems it's very likely to have sprung another! FFS 🤬

That would have been nice! Not -6C here but cold enough so with very little solar today we ran out 4 Powerwalls... 😩

My heat pump stats for the last week. The average outside temperature as measured by our weather station was 9.4C. The heating COP was 5.2, the DHW COP was 2.9, for a very respectable combined COP of 4.8. Although these figures are great the hot water needs optimising as it has room for improvement.

Looking at our ASHP data for Oct 2024, our Vaillant Arotherm+ consumed 242kWh of electricity and supplied 1168kWh of heat for a combined COP of 4.8. Heating only COP was 5.4 and hot water only COP was 3.2.
The electricity was all supplied from either PV or stored off-peak electricity.

In June this year the Ripple Energy wind farm at Kirk Hill started generating. We'd been waiting a while for it to go online but sadly it didn't start before the energy crisis. However, since June our share has generated 4.4MWh of electricity and produced the equivalent CO2 reduction of 334 trees 🌳🌲

The average outside temp was -0.6C yesterday with a high of 1.8C and a low of -3.6C. Our Vaillant Arotherm+ ASHP delivered 105kWh of heat to the home and consumed 32kWh to do so for a daily COP of 3.3. #ClimateAction
