Lunar eclipse, March 13 – 14. Beautiful, mild weather.
A photo of a total lunar eclipse. The moon has been lit by the setting sun. It must be a spectacular view from up there. Phone camera through binoculars. Photo of the lunar eclipse approaching totality. The camera setup was unstable, and there are some artifacts from reflections of the binocular eyepiece. A photo of my optics setup. Binoculars on a tripod, with sidereal tracking mechanism. The setup is shown aimed toward the moon for eclipse viewing. The street lights are terrible for the experience, but great for exposing the kludgy setup. An imperfect shot of the lunar eclipse near totality. The moon has a brilliant edge, where the sun’s light is not completely occluded, in contrast to the dusky shadow of earth causing the moon’s red appearance. Some stars and lens artifacts frame the natural satellite.

Decided to see if I can track the visible spectrum during the fairly boring penumbral stage. This is taken with a phone camera held up to a small slit in some aluminum foil.
A blurry, fairly washed-out smear of the visible spectrum. I can see red near the top, through blue about halfway down, and I can maybe believe to see some blush, vaguely lavender coloration beneath the blue.
