During the AWS outage, Eight Sleep mattresses went rogue 🛌

They woke people up with flashing lights, cranked heat to high levels, and locked into upright positions.

Welcome to 2025, where your subscription mattress freaks out because servers went down.

And just like that, Apple & Google are suing Texas for their 'censorship regime' and ' oppressive laws' for KYCing app stores 🧑‍⚖️ It's not common to agree with them, but this is nice to see!

Would you want to see coverage of this in a video update? Source:

🎉 Zorin OS 18 is here, and it's a big upgrade!

Nice timing since Windows 10 just hit end-of-life this week, leaving 240 million PCs behind. Instead of buying new hardware or forcing Windows 11, Zorin OS like most distros lets you keep your existing computer running for years.

🦊 Firefox 144 is FINALLY bringing full-fledged profile management!

No more about:profiles hacks or command-line flags. Just easy switching between personal, work, and testing profiles, like Chrome has had for years.

Drops October 14th, but you can enable it now in about:config

🚨 Logitech is bricking $100 smart home buttons on October 15th.

Your "compensation" for this planned obsolescence? A 15% off coupon (with exclusions) that expires in 6 months.

The Agreement: You paid $100. They're giving you a discount code. Your devices become e-waste.

🎉 VICTORY: Synology just backed down on their restrictive drive policy!

After massive community backlash, Synology will now allow non-verified third-party drives on 2025 Plus, Value, and J-series NAS models with DSM 7.3.

🚨 Texas is trying to destroy app privacy for everyone.

Starting 2026: Texas law requires age verification for all app downloads. Want to check the weather? Hand over "sensitive, personally identifiable information."

Apple and Google are complying, but calling it out as bad.

Microsoft is at it AGAIN, removing more workarounds that let you install Windows 11 without a Microsoft account.

The latest W11 test build kills the "start ms-cxh:localonly" command that users discovered after MS blocked "bypassnro" earlier this year.

Pretty ridiculous 😤

🚨 BREAKING: Chat Control BLOCKED in EU! 🎉

Germany just refused to back the EU's mass surveillance "Chat Control" regulation after public pressure! This blocks the required majority in the EU Council and derails next week's planned vote.

80% of benefits come from switching to ANY established big tech alternative discussed in our community.

But many discussions revolve around the 20% that most people will never even get to.

Less arguing, more onboarding. Get friends off WhatsApp & Gmail first, then optimize.

Senator Ron Wyden is calling out Microsoft's "gross cybersecurity negligence" for the cause behind the ransomware attack that took down hospitals 🏥💥

5+ million patient records stolen. Surgeries suspended. All because Microsoft uses "ancient, insecure" encryption by default.

UK's age verification law is working exactly as critics predicted: a complete disaster.

Compliant sites lost 90% of users. Non-compliant sketchy sites saw traffic DOUBLE. On the bright side: Kids are now being taught to use Tor browser.

Congratulations, you played yourselves🧵

Former WhatsApp security chief just dropped a lawsuit against Meta 💣

Claims 1,500 engineers had unrestricted access to user data with no audit trail, and that he got fired for trying to fix it.

Meta says he's just a disgruntled ex-employee with "poor performance."

Reminder: While we're debating whether Proton or Tutanota has better encryption, many people are still using Gmail with password123 and wondering how their bank account was drained.

The weeds are fun to be in, but don't forget to look up once in a while 🌿

If you don't have a custom domain, you don't really own your email inbox.

New service shuts down? Your address is gone forever. Provider changes terms? You're stuck. Want to switch? Good luck updating every account.

A $10/year domain gives you email independence for life.

Your message history can finally survive phone disasters. End-to-end encrypted backups that refresh daily, with a 64-character recovery key that never leaves your device.

Here's how it works... 🧵

Google quietly scrubbed its 2030 net-zero pledge from its website after AI data centers made those goals "impossible" 🤐

Google just got slapped with a $3.45 billion EU fine for rigging the ad tech game in their favor.

The kicker? They've been doing this since 2014, basically tax on every website that dares to show ads without bowing to Google's empire.

Over 10 years ago I opened Tor Browser for the first time and felt something I'd never experienced online: Safety.

Today, it's still one of the few browsers with sensible defaults, the magic hasn't left.

Thank you @torproject.bsky.social for protecting millions of people 🌍

People can't agree on anything these days..except that Windows sucks and switching to Linux is amazing 😂

Literally the only universal agreement I see. Crypto bros, privacy advocates, random tech Twitter - everyone has the "why didn't I do this sooner" energy

SWITCH TO LINUX 🐧
