MLK’s legacy wasn’t built on speeches alone, but on consistent work for justice and dignity.

Honoring him isn’t a once-a-year post—it’s how we show up the rest of the time, especially when it’s uncomfortable.

Today is a reminder to keep doing the work.

Jennifer and I attended the Midland Community Foundation Gala last night — a great evening focused on community impact and philanthropy. Always encouraging to connect with people doing meaningful work across our region.

At a recent meeting, I was asked to step into the Treasurer role for the Learning Community Coordinating Council.

The role focuses on overseeing finances, supporting transparency, and ensuring resources are used carefully to support students and families across our districts.

I’m officially running for the Papio-Missouri River NRD Board while continuing my service on the Learning Community.

Public service means taking responsibility for decisions that affect our communities long term—water protection, flood control, and responsible growth.

January 6 was a turning point for me. Seeing democratic institutions tested made it clear that democracy requires participation. That realization led me to public service. This photo is from January 9, 2025, when I was sworn in.

As we begin a new year, I want to thank our community for trusting me to serve. This past year has been about showing up—at meetings, in the community, and in the less visible policy and budget work that supports students, families, and schools. I’m committed to continuing that work.

Good night out with Jennifer at Tony Vargas’s New Year’s Eve-Eve party. Great conversations, lots of dancing, and time spent with people who truly show up for their community—including Mayor John Ewing. I think Tony Vargas and Darin Tompkins would both do a great job.

This week, Jennifer and I donated 16 dozen donuts to Pettrigrew Emergency Shelter and the Stephen Center to help provide a moment of comfort for people navigating difficult circumstances.

Acts of care matter. When we keep people at the center, communities are stronger and more connected.

During the holiday season, I’m reminded how much community matters. This time of year is about slowing down, checking in on one another, and recognizing what gives our communities their character. We’re also celebrating a special family moment—my oldest son, Ayden, recently got engaged.

Jennifer and I delivered 45 gift cards—over $1,000—collected by members and attendees of the Sarpy County Democrats to Lift Up Sarpy County. These are going to teens, who are often left out of holiday giving, and help provide choice, dignity, and support.

End-of-Year Referee Stats: Since 8/25/20 I’ve officiated 655 matches.

2024: Spring 42 games/188.94 mi; Summer 21/52.68; Fall 60/266.64.

Year total: 123 games/508.26 mi.

Refereeing sharpens the fairness, consistency, and clear decisions I rely on in public service.

Joined Gerald Kuhn, Monica Wells, and MOEC’s Terry Haack at the State Board meeting for the CAP discussion. Met leaders, including 2025 TOY Lindsey Wilson, Dr. Vargas, and Deputy Commissioner Frison. Also great reconnecting with Maggie Douglas. #TeamJasonTaylor

Spent a good part of my day doing mock interviews with Avenue Scholars juniors. Avenue Scholars supports motivated students with coaching, guidance, and real-world experiences that prepare them for high-demand careers after graduation. Glad I could help today.

I’ve joined the Board of Directors for For All Counseling. Their trauma-informed mental-health evaluations give people a chance to have their full story understood during difficult legal challenges. I’m looking forward to supporting this work.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m grateful for my family and for all the people in our community who work every day to support kids and families. Serving District #6 is an honor, and I appreciate the encouragement you’ve shown me.

Hope you get time today to rest and enjoy the people you care about.

On Thursday, Jennifer and I attended the 2025 Milagro Awards. Incredible stories of families, medical teams, and partners creating real milagros.

Seeing the Learning Community recognized reminded me how much our work impacts kids and families in Douglas & Sarpy Counties.

Started the day at the Greater Omaha Chamber Economic Outlook with insights from Deloitte’s Mike Bechtel and Dr. Ira Kalish—useful for my work on the Learning Community.

Later, I visited Omaha South to see Avenue Scholars
students share their career goals.

An inspiring night at the Ben Nelson Gala with my sister, Diona.

Heard from former President Biden, Gov. Beshear, and Sen. Nelson, plus met Harry Dunn.

Highlight: Nebraska’s four Native tribes honoring Biden with a traditional quilt and song. 💙

Volunteered this weekend as a soccer ref for the Special Olympics. The athletes brought effort, respect, and joy. Moments like this remind me why I’m committed to the Learning Community—small acts add up to bigger outcomes. Thanks to everyone who made it happen.

On Sept. 19, I joined Millard Public Schools for their Superintendent Business Advisory breakfast with Mayor Ewing and other community leaders. A great chance to hear about student successes, new career pathways, and how we can support schools in high-poverty areas.
