Yeah! It also added equipment, and cleaned up the spell upgrades but made it so you can only take 1 per spell.

Another change I like but I can imagine people having different opinions on is there's less attrition - you fully heal and recharge spells each stage (though items are still consumable).

Really strong list imo.

Do want to be an ass and jump in to say that I enjoyed Rift Wizard... but then Rift Wizard 2 really ran away with it. Think I've put like 400 hours into that thing since it came out.

Really happy to see Iji brought up in the 2020s too.

Yeah it's a fuzzy line, but the person asking "what are the mechanics" isn't looking for you to say the main mechanic in your platformer is jumping. Unless you're making something like bionic commando or VVVVVV. In those cases they probably would actually like the answer. There's that fuzz I guess.

Cause like, yeah. Everything is a mechanic. Jumping. Running. Moving. Finding items. Inventory. Can you die? That's a mechanic. So on and so forth.

"What are the mechanics" is such a bizarrely open ended question.

Is the issue that people are saying "mechanics" when they mean "gimmicks"?

On reading further it sounds like this is the main character...? making the MC someone so insufferable is certainly a bold choice that I am skeptical will pay off. Might be a distinct argument from "is it written well" though.

Also realizing that he's really STILL doing the Ayn Rand thing, huh?

I'm worried this will parse as defending Ken, but I really enjoy that the reactions here, in order, seem to have been:
"Look at this insane thing a real person expressed"
"Oh, actually he wrote a rant by a fictional character"
"I can't believe this guy thinks a real person would say this!"

Sony has the license for movies. The reason they couldn't use spider-man for the digital client was almost certainly because of an exclusive agreement with Marvel Snap.

This really fucked me up playing it as a programmer - agonizing the whole time wondering "the game insists the odds are real - but what if the pseudo-rng is just that bad and they didn't know!"

The serious risk is that what this comes down to is whether someone can argue in court that typing in a prompt counts as "creative input".

This is a really annoying asshole question of me - does a game need combat to qualify as "action"? Knytt definitely has *hazards*, though maybe not in sufficient amounts to feel like action, anyway.

There are probably examples even further afield than Knytt anyway.

Entirely fair! I didn't do it until I had almost every mobility upgrade and it was still pretty close so I can imagine it's incredibly demanding without them.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, only one of the components requires you to do the timed delivery, and getting hit only uses some of the time up rather than failing you instantly.

If it's not that one, I have no idea what quest you mean and I thought I did them all...
