Oaklands School provides education for rather wonderful children and young people with complex, long term additional support needs.
We were very excited to have the chance to go and watch the GB and Poland ice hockey teams training at Murrayfield today ahead of their tournament this weekend. It was fast paced and exciting and we got to meet the players in person!

We love a trip to the Colinton Tunnel, so many interesting images to look at. It’s got a great wheelchair accessible path too alongside the Water of Leith.

Santa’s apprentice popped in today to check up on the cheeky elf. Cheeky elf apparently has a lot of work to do between now and Christmas if he wants to get back on Santa’s good list.

Big congratulations to our fabulous Frankie who was one of this year’s winners of the annual Edinburgh bus shelters artwork competition. The theme was ‘Winter Wonders’. You can see Frankie’s winning entry displayed along Princes Street.

We had a very exciting visitor in nursery this week. Word got around quickly and nursery suddenly had a quite a few pupils and staff popping in from across the school.

A cheeky elf came into school this morning with one of our secondary pupils. He even has his own elf sized Oaklands school top on. He’s already getting up to mischief and has hidden himself somewhere in the school. We’ll keep you posted about where he turns up!

We were delighted to be joined by pupils from Blackhall Primary School this morning for assembly and wheelchair dancing. Everyone was super excited to meet them. A couple of our primary pupils were particularly enthusiastic, squeezing themselves onto the middle of the bench to sit with them.

It was the perfect afternoon for a bonfire; warm (for a Scottish November) and no rain. Spruce class had a lovely time snapping kindling, making sparks and singing fireside songs. #LfSEdinburgh

Rowan class have been busy cooking up Christmas treats ready to sell at our winter fair next month. They’ve been making individual Christmas cakes and they look and smell amazing!

We are very excited to have Drake Music back at Oaklands and working with some of our secondary pupils. We had so much fun today during the 1st session using our voices and iPads to create spooky noises and music.
