But it feels like a massive waste to not be able to use a piece of tech that would work perfectly well if it weren't for some outdated WiFi security standards.

I think it goes without saying that I don't want to buy a new (or refurbished) Kindle. Taking advantage of Amazon's Kindle trade-in programme will net me a £5 voucher, which will be good for a handful of books I guess.
