First, explaining macroeconomics. Now, microeconomics. Let's say I earn $1,000 selling 10 pairs of shoes at $100 per pair. I want to earn more, so I raise the price of the exact same shoes to $750. Will I still sell 10 pairs and earn $75,000? Not likely. Why? Price sensitivity.

Fun fact: I don’t like beer. Never have, never will. As a result, in my college days, keg parties weren't much fun. Booze wasn't cheap, so I decided to bring what every dude in the late ‘80s was proud to carry into a party: a 4-pack of chilled Seagrams Wild Berry wine coolers! 🧵

When will the lawyer guild - which has long enjoyed self-regulation because lawyering is supposedly too complex for non-lawyers to grasp, let alone oversee - start taking the long-overdue action of disciplining lawyers who brazenly subvert the rule of law and utterly fail on character & fitness?
Lawyers have ethical obligations to courts regardless of what their bosses say. If a government lawyer is asked to violate their oath, they should resign. There is no excuse for caving to Trump.

Just imagine some man on the other side of that screen, sitting at a fake desk, wearing makeup and poncy clothes, constantly yearning for more manly men. $10 this is all projection and he's eventually outed. Dude, it's okay. You really can live the life you really want. No judgment.

We all know 47's tariffs, deportations & dismantling of govt aren't because he's terrible at business. He is. Daydreams of dominance & revenge are how scared, unloved, little boys retreat from trauma. His ability to act out these dreams make him a hero to his angry fans feeling screwed over by life.

5 songs that transport me instantly back to my tween years: (1) Firefall "Just Remember I Love You" (2) Poco "Crazy Love" (3) Paul McCartney & Wings "With a Little Luck" (4) Jay Ferguson "Thunder Island" & (5) Andrew Gold "Lonely Boy." You don't even need a mono AM radio to hear them, just YouTube!

An elderly family member posted a challenge for an explanation on why liberals don't like tariffs, especially since the US is on the verge of bankruptcy... and to do so without simply calling him dumb. The 1st reply was, "Because liberals hate America!" Nevertheless, I decided to play along. 1/x

One lesson from the 45th & 47th presidential administrations is that many constraints limiting totalitarianism are cosmetic. Prior presidents, fearful of public shaming or negative polling, respected tradition. But if you have no shame and don't respect the rule of law, you can just be a king. 1/8

At a time when courage is desperately needed and in short supply, Rachel Cohen’s challenge to her law firm’s partners is a breath of fresh air and an inspiration. (PS. Predictably, Skadden immediately terminated her.) www.linkedin.com/posts/rachel...

Day 2 of annual Hoops Junkie Weekend - non-stop watching & talking basketball. Someone asked if I’ve ever been dunked on. Um, yes. Here’s proof from a Dec 2013 charity game vs. The Harlem Wizards. Just a reminder, kids: No amount of pickup hoops at the Y prepares you for playing with real athletes!

The 47th president's attacks on lawyers who've represented his political rivals, plaintiffs accusing him of crimes, or even We the People who've demanded accountability, is a predictable tactic. After first securing immunity from the SupCt, he now seeks to eliminate future litigation against him.

This is a great read. Jonathan Rauch quotes Professors Stephen E. Hanson & Jeffrey S. Kopstein, who quote German sociologist Max Weber. Patrimonialism is about governing based on loyalty to Daddy. Its notable tenets are incompetence, bedlam, and destruction. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
One Word Describes Trump
A century ago, a German sociologist explained precisely how the president thinks about the world.

There are many, many examples that demonstrate the insufficiency and ineffectiveness of lawyer self-regulation. The entire Judiciary, in a stance endorsed by the sitting Chief Justice, takes it a step further and fails to recognize even self-regulation as binding. abovethelaw.com/2025/02/the-...

While exacting political retribution against the ABA for taking a stand (against lawlessness 😂), they’re starting to deconstruct the guild’s self-regulation. Oh, the irony! 🙄 www.ftc.gov/news-events/...

Almost every flaw in professional licensing noted in this piece applies to legal regulators. "States need to overhaul their licensing-board systems to eliminate the self-regulation that has made licensing a lose-lose for workers and consumers alike." (fixed link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
Why No One Can Fix the Broken Licensing System
Scholars and activists haven’t paid enough attention to the role that state boards play in perpetuating both over- and under-regulation.

The American Bar Association urges lawyers to uphold the rule of law. Um, yay? However, only individual state bars, not the ABA, can discipline lawyers. In states run by lawyers giddily ignoring the rule of law, will bar leaders intervene? Don't hold your breath. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

I never want to see another article from a pearl-clutching lawyer bleeting that only lawyers are capable of regulating their own. While radical political hacks w/ JDs ignore civil procedure and trample the rule of law and the US Constitution, where are the Bar disciplinary panels?

One app I love shows flight boards from all airports. Very helpful for flight re-routing. It recently added long video game ads that won't stop, despite clicking as if to buy. This boosts click #s & ad $, but don't ad buyers know these are fake clicks?! Plus, why target frequent fliers w/ game ads?!
January 9, 2025 at 6:50 PM
As we boarded, the flight crew directed everyone to deplane. Maintenance issue, 3.5 hr delay, now at 8+ hrs. Luckily, my status allows easy rebooking options, so I'll make it to my client engagement. After 22 years flying direct almost anywhere from EWR & PHL, operating from a tiny airport is tough!

I clicked on a YouTube bystander video of an out-of-control law enforcement officer assaulting a citizen, so now my feed regularly includes more such videos. Such incidents are statistically uncommon relative to the number of overall LEO interactions. But still... So. Many. Videos. LEOs: Do better!

This is the busiest year I've ever had consulting. My business ops are mostly automated & I hire gig contractors for help w/ financial analysis but I use AI sparingly - mostly synthesizing & extracting quotes from interview transcripts. What other clever AI uses have other solo consultants found?

This is driving me crazy. I can't recall the term of art for a doc summarizing & memorializing the pros & cons of a board debate & vote, useful for educating future board members & avoid revisiting settled debates. It's NOT meeting minutes, which is only a record of agenda items & votes. Any help?
