We care for nature on our land and in partnership with private landholders throughout Tasmania.
We’re excited to share TLC’s 2025–30 #StrategicPlan.
Our vision is for Lutruwita/#Tasmania to be a global leader in #natureconservation. To get there, we’re focusing on:
• thoughtful, long-term mgmt of the places in our care
• growing a strong, connected #community of people for #nature...

Ted & Erika contributed well beyond their core #governance responsibilities through their dedication to sub-committees, #volunteering time in the field, at events, & in thoughtfully applying their insights & experience to build the effectiveness & integrity of our org.

Many of us come home for #Christmas. So do #swift parrots. Each #spring they cross Bass Strait to nest in #Tasmania’s #bluegum forests – but their habitat is shrinking.

For #nature to thrive, it needs #community. And for communities to thrive, we need nature.
Help strengthen the bond that sustains both. #Donate now, tasland.org.au/donate

At TLC, around 8 of us focus on supporting private landholders who help care for #Tasmania’s incredible #conservation values.
In mid-Nov, this team spent 2days at Kingston in the #Midlands w Simon Cameron — learning from his experiences while also lending a hand with an arvo of woody weed removal.

#MidlandsConservationPartnership is pleased to announce that, in collab with @utas.edu.au, we have secured $75k through a Landcare Agriculture Biodiversity in Action grant. The funding will support a PhD project to address a key knowledge gap in #grassland mgmt.

With assistance from Justin Cashin and with ideal weather conditions – no mean feat in this windy #spring! – TLC completed a 1.1-hectare #ecologicalburn at Rubicon Sanctuary.

Over 100 people from our #community joined us for our co-hosted birding event with Inala Nature Tours on their beautiful property on South #BrunyIsland. Small flocks of #swiftparrots feeding on the ground and fluffy fledgling #forty-spottedpardalotes were two of the birding highlights.

Congrats to @utas.edu.au’s Professor Mark Hovenden & team on the success of their ARC Discovery Project (4 years, $1.18M): Protecting the #peatysoils that store #Australia’s water!

Managing & preparing #covenanted properties for new owners takes time & multiple rounds of exploration from our team. Recently, Kenna Reid-Clark, from our reserves team, explored Karoola Hills with our CEO Dr Kath Tuft, #ecologist Matilda Terry and conservations programs manager, Nicole Sherriff.

#Congrats to the #winner of the inaugural #NatureWritingPrize, Bridget Webster with her #story 'Like all good fruit'. Bridget’s work stood out to the judges for its remarkable & memorable perspective. Her short fiction evokes the beauty & horror, the transcendental wonder, of death & decay.

#Spring at TLC's St Helens #RevolvingFund Property is especially gorgeous, the #ironbark forest understorey is flowering, incl. wattles, peas, #orchids & #sundews. Among them, the climbing sundew was seen weaving its way through the vegetation.

We want to say a big #thankyou to Dr Tanya Scharaschkin & Rae at Plants of Tasmania Nursery for helping us host our #NatureJournaling Workshop event in Oct. We slowed down, sat & sketched our way around the nursery, being inspired by the amazing #Tasmanian #flora available.

Our intern, Jonty Dehnert, has welcomed our newest Land for Wildlife member, Harry Chandler. Harry and his family have been protecting bushland remnants on their land which had been degraded by past clearing and grazing.

#Conservation #ecologist, Rebecca McFarlane, was out surveying grasslands on a covenanted property east of #Launceston in October. She had a 'wow' moment looking back towards the car with the slopes of #BenLomond in the background.

We ⏰ up a lot of kms here at the TLC. Our reserves are spread across Tas, & we're not shy of 🛻 up the #MidlandHighway a couple of times a week. For the past 2yrs, we've completed the #defensivedriving course with Performance Driving Australia, learning essential skills to negotiate #Tassie roads.

Possibly the best tracks to spot! These are #Tassie devil tracks in the mud at TLC's The Big Punchbowl Reserve! The reserve has a resident population of nat #endangered #Tasmaniandevils. Devils are widespread across the reserve despite the persistence of devil facial tumour disease in the area.

"We check the #weather for all sorts of reasons – #bushwalks, backyard plans, deciding whether to wear a beanie or puffer jacket to the beach. For the TLC team, it’s also how we decide when to return fire to the land...".
