Regardless of today's tragedy and subsequent Admin announcements, it appears obvious that USCIS already started taking action to return Afghan refugees - many of whom aided US troops during the war - to a likely deadly fate under the Taliban.

Effective immediately, I-485 applications for refugees admitted 1/20/21–2/20/25 are on hold, and reviews/re-interviews begin. Within 90 days, USCIS will prioritize the re-interview list and issue operational guidance.
