Sometimes I buy some specialized tools like that out of curiosity only if they're on sale. The improvised stuff can work just as well and are typically cheaper than the made-for stuff.

Mani/pedicure kits are great additions to any kit builder's tool chest. You can get a lot of bang for the buck.
