The boat was split in half. 9 men were dead. 2 more clung to a floating piece of wreckage and tried desperately to flip it over for 41 minutes straight. There was no possible way they were going anywhere.

Then they were killed in cold blood by the U.S. military.

As Justice Kagan begins her dissent by pointing out, what is even the point of trial, of fact-finding, of clear error, of standards of review, when the Supreme Court simply ignores every single part of that and decides everything purely on the papers without any real consideration of the facts?

America’s enemies must be delighted to see our own immigration law-enforcement in masks forcibly apprehending a US citizen medical professional in this way. They couldn’t create better propaganda against American exceptionalism.

There is good reason not to answer: immigration law presumes that a person not born in the US is an “alien”, and immigration authorities want to exploit that to detain more people. The presumption should be abolished: many US citizens are born abroad and many people born abroad become US citizens.

💯 agree. If they don’t hear it from us, they may not hear it at all, and believe that their bubble reflects popular opinion.
