Today I finally managed to not do any remote work and hiked to the Santa Rosalia sanctuary in the hills north of Palermo instead. Was an interesting hike, even if the bit at sea level through Palermo was fairly noisy and boring. Gosh, I really dislike Italian traffic planning. So car-centric.

Jos teillä/sinulla joskus on aikaa jäädä yöksi Saarbrückeniin, niin kannattaa käydä läheisen Völklingenin vanhalla terästehtaalla. Upea paikka, jossa pääsee kiipeilemään vanhojen masuunien päällä huiman korkealle. Sisätiloissa taas on vaihtuvia näyttelyitä isojen ihmeellisten koneiden lisäksi.

Quite a self-own. Notice the question marks instead of their profile picture.

Pre-winter #Interrail starts. Arrived in Stockholm with the ship from Turku at 06:30. First one to disembark, bus 53 to the station, well in time for the 07:24 train to Malmö. Will get off in Lund, from there regional train to Copenhagen, then on to Hamburg, where I will stay overnight.

By the way, I am a card-carrying* Rail Enthusiast.

*) Actually I had to return the card when I left, I think. If not, I sadly have lost it.

Yeah, I am sure he follows me. Reported and blocked.

If you see this, post an album cover with a motor vehicle on it.

(My previous attempt was a repeat of one earlier in the thread, so doing another one. And yes, I do have this in physical form.)

Very touching. Heavy facial leakage.

Here are the first and next-to-last pictures of our Aimée, who left us a few days before Christmas last year. And one from her 13th birthday in June last year.

Minulla on tällainen kotimainen disainpata. Sain kai joskus isänpäivänlahjaksi. Tosi painava, senkin takia varmaan tulee turhan harvoin käytettyä.

If one already has this, does one need that? (Rhetorical question.)

Also Renfe: "Hmm, I will need to buy a train ticket in Spain, but their site is in Spanish. Oh, look, there is a globe menu, that surely is where I can change language. Now, which one of these is English, I don't know Spanish."

Funnily enough, Google has managed to index it, though

The cemetery in Lviv is an interesting place to visit. Lots of old Polish gravestones in addition to Ukrainian ones.

En usein tee kovin monimutkaista ruokaa mutta joitain kuukausia sitten tein lasagnea ihan kaikista raaka-aineista lähtien, pastankin itse. Kävin varta vasten samana päivänä ostamassa Clas Ohlsonista pastakoneenkin, häpeän tunnustaa ettei aikaisemmin ollut. Oli työlästä mutta hyvää.

In Turku there is a hotel in the former (in)famous Kakola prison. Mid-price, and yes, you get to stay in (heavily renovated) former cells.

Also here in Helsinki we have a former prison that now is a hotel, somewhat oddly called Home Hotel Katajanokka.

Pro Tip: If entering historical train trips in Turkey on @viaduct.world , Haydarpaşa station is missing, but Söğütlüçeşme is there, and is just a few kilometres away on the same line.

(Sirkeci is available, there are apparently still (regional) trains using it).

Took the Hellas Express to Athens in 1985 (on a frantic foolish #Interrail trip back and forth on the Continent)... very slow travel across Yugoslavia, in the summer, without much to eat to drink. Then on to Kalamata. Oh, (g)olden times, glad you are gone, but still, I do feel a bit of nostalgia.

Please continue, how did you get to Greece after that? A substantial bus journey was involved, too, I assume?

And oh yes, I also love traveling in #FensterAuf carriages. As long as there aren't grumpy locals in the compartment demanding you keep the window closed and fully enjoy the lack of AC.

Short drone video of Matera, in early May. Starting from in front of our (temporary) apartment, flying backwards and upwards, up over the ravine, with more of the Sassi coming into view.
