Chilean birthday celebrations! 🎈

We’ve had an afternoon at Los Polzones hot springs today, taking advantage of the natural hot springs in this volcanic area.
There were five outdoor hot pools ranging from about 34° to 45°C. 🥰
The mineral rich water is supposed to aid skin revival and youthful good looks.
Still waiting… 🤣

Went to the volcanic caves yesterday. Villarrica is the most active volcano in Chile, cuenten on green alert 🌋
The caves were formed by lava flowing onto a great mass of ice, that formed a tunnel 400m long when it melted.
The Mapuche word for Villarrica is Rucapillán, meaning ‘house of the spirits’.

Jenga fail in Chile. 🫨
It was our tallest tower yet!

Great couple of days on the Chilean adventure.
A visit to Pucón town.
A sunset boat trip on Lago Villarrica.
Did a bit of stargazing, and with a mere iPhone, tried to capture the stars.
Tried kayaking for the first time and loved it. The lake was so serene. 💚 🇨🇱

It’s been a relaxing, then scenic day in Chile 🇨🇱

First, we have our dome house accommodation (largely built by my brother).
We went for a walk to a nearby river, which is basically meltwater from the volcano. 🌋
My Dad decided to come too, which was quite a challenge for him, but he did it!

Buenas días de Chile 🇨🇱

Here am I at last, on a glorious first morning. ☀️

That’s Volcán Villarrica in the background. 🌋

Longest leg of our journey is over. 🛬 😰
14 hours from Heathrow to Santiago de Chile in the bag.

Just another short flight to Temuco and we’re almost there. 🇨🇱

Ed has gone to the cattery this morning, ahead of our flight tomorrow.
He was not happy about this situation and wanted lodge his complaint to the highest level.

This was me doing my job many many years ago. When we had big books and shiny coworkers.

Been for a forest walk today.
It’s great for the soul to walk through woodland. You feel your heart lift. And I didn’t even hug a tree. 🌲 🌳

This time is was Hamsterley Forest in County Durham.

Looking fabulous in the Autumn. 🍂 🍃🍂🍁🌿

We’ve had a robot vacuum for a few years. Quite handy.

But I always wanted that ‘cat rides on robot vacuum cleaner across the room’ shot.
Never happened.
Cat avoided the robot vac like the plague.

Today though. Not riding, but relaxing… 💪

Is yours a drama queen like ours?
Meows in an affronted manner while all the other pets sit quietly?
Or perhaps that’s just Ed. 🙀

Happy Sunday!

Why not try this coffee & egg recipe I saw in ‘Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management’ at Raby Castle yesterday? 🤨☕️

It does seem odd 🫨 but the coffee grounds coagulate with the egg (including shell!) then sink to the bottom, leaving a smooth coffee without the need for milk.👌

Been to Raby Castle this afternoon. 🏰 🦌

Home to the medieval powerhouse family - the Nevilles, until the 16th century.
The Vane family bought it in the 17th century and their descendants still own it today.

There were some reenactors on site, dressed in medieval attire. 🛡️

I was a little bit late home from work tonight.
Ed was meowing in disapproval from atop the garden fence when I arrived. 😾

“I’m so bloody hungry I’m forced to eat bare tree branches”, he pitifully exaggerated.

Very enjoyable evening listening to @wmarybeard.bsky.social talk about Ancient Rome in Newcastle. 🏛️

The good news is I got all questions right in the interactive quiz, but bad news is I didn’t answer them quick enough and didn’t win a prize.

Mala fortuna!

Been to the David Bowie Centre at the V&A East.
Four photos don’t do it justice & certainly don’t convey how excited I was to see everything.
🫶

It’s the permanent home of Bowie’s archive. Over 90,000 items inc costumes, props, notebooks, diaries, lyrics & correspondence.

Bowie heaven. ⚡️ 💜 👩‍🎤

Who says cats are daft?

Ed discovered a ‘Felix’ gift box from last Christmas.
On the floor behind a sofa in a bay window.
Our bad.

Over a few days he has broken into the treat packets and scoffed them.

He is 10 months late in many eyes.
We were well slack in our treat hiding in others.
🫠 😺

Was there today, in Darlington, for the recreation of that first journey across Skerne Bridge 200 years ago today. 🚂
Super special.
