I was shocked as a kid helping parents being able to move a fridge no trouble… cooker no trouble… washing machine… um, nope, they have a lump of concrete in them so they don’t jump about when spinning! It made sense but I was so annoyed aged 8 - They were all the same sort of metal box in my head!

Moving server would be regarded as higher priority than washing machine in this family too! 😁

Hope your not dusty house is going well Natalya! And the washing machine is in - wow but those things are heavy!

Thanks for sharing this article - I would like to see property value/wealth taxes & don’t buy the “I worked hard for this” argument (seriously, how many hospital cleaners are homeowners - & they’re definitely not lazy!!)- & think the article nicely articulates some important considerations

Is that parked intentionally or has the engine flooded and broken? It has an air of “oh heck, shouldn’t have driven through that” about it?

Nice work, and yes you’re absolutely right - maintenance of transport networks including cycle tracks and footpaths shouldn’t fall to volunteers!
If the route is a right of way Open Spaces Society has this handy highway’s act resource: www.oss.org.uk/need-to-know...
Rights of Way: Requiring the highway authority to act on obstructed paths Section 130A of the Highways Act 1980 - Open Spaces Society

This is brilliant. My (white, Welsh) grandpa was stationed mostly in what’s now Bangladesh. He learned Urdu (& Hindi) had so much respect for the people he’d worked with there. When dying with dementia he still loved pleasing Urdu-speakers by talking politely to them in Urdu.

Unfortunately that’s not this council’s policy - policy doc says no residents’ mobility scooters on council property (indoors or out) unless the specific device is applied for & permitted in writing, never in lifts or above ground floor, visitors scooters outside only, charges apply & much more!
