A reading room with a view of the sea sounds blissful 🥰
And I'm delighted to hear that Gargoyles have made it to Devon 📚✨️
Staying in a house that has a reading room with gorgeous views of the North Devon coast. So far I’ve been on two beautiful walks (with obligatory cream teas) and read two gripping Gargoyles books! @tamsinmori.bsky.social @foxandinkbooks.bsky.social @daviddean-illus.bsky.social #UKKidLit #KidLitUK

Parents and educators - there are a lot of discussions in publishing about how to improve reading for pleasure. Is there anything you wish publishing would do more of? Or just understand about kids and reading? Any insights from teaching/parenting of what gets kids reading? #KidLitUK #Edusky #KidLit

When it comes to first drafts, my best advice is to trust your own editing skills and keep writing. You can fix it later – the first draft is all about getting words on the page. When I’m struggling with this (which I do), I use the Pomodoro technique to stay on track #ukteenchat
10, Do you have any writing tips or advice you’d like to share? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 8:01 PM
I’ve just turned in the structural edit of Gargoyles book 3 (YAY!). This month is packed with school visits, but after that I’ll be brewing up a new story to be working on between edits. I’ve already got some ideas – the sea is calling me
#ukteenchat
9, Can you give us any hints about what you’re working on next? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:55 PM
I’d describe myself as a reformed pantser. I still prefer to free-write before I’ve got a detailed plot. I identify a start, midpoint twist, and outcome. Whenever I get stuck writing forwards, I just write one of the scenes I feel excited about, then patchwork the story back together #ukteenchat
8, Would you describe yourself as a plotter or a pantser when it comes to planning your stories? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:48 PM
This is going to sound decadent, but my favourite place to write is in bed, with my cat. I tend to start writing first thing in the morning as soon as I’ve had a coffee. Occasionally I’ll write late into the night too. Those are the times filled with peace and uninterrupted dreaming
#ukteenchat
7, Do you have any writing rituals or a favourite place where you like to write? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:42 PM
It has to be the gargoyles! I love the idea of a creature who is a fearsome protector. I also enjoy that they’re so diverse - it makes them great fun to write. There’s literally no limit to the form a gargoyle can take – they’re as varied and unique as the people who need them #ukteenchat
6, What’s your favourite kind of magical creature or power in the world of Gargoyles? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:36 PM
I don’t think it’s giving two much away to say: the green man. He is on the cover, after all! I wanted to introduce a character with real gravitas – formed in the beginning; familiar with the foundations of magic. The moment the children meet him for the first time is my favourite scene #ukteenchat
5, Without giving too much away, is there a scene or character in The Watcher that you especially enjoyed writing? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:31 PM
I’ve got better at accepting that my first draft will be awful. Overall, I think this has speeded up the whole process. I’m a terrible perfectionist and previously I wasted a lot of time trying to perfect my first draft. My first book took me about five years from start to finish #ukteenchat
4, Have you found that the way you approach your writing has changed the more books you have written? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:26 PM
I returned to my favourite British myths and legends and read as many stories as I could find. I also did image research, creating Pinterest boards for all the different characters - that really helped me to visualise the new characters before I started writing #ukteenchat
3, Was there any particular research that you had to do for The Watcher? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:19 PM
It does. I love writing trilogies that have almost no break in the timeline. I did the same with the Weather Weaver. It’s an opportunity to tell a much larger three act story, with a bigger tale hiding there for readers who read the books in sequence #ukteenchat
2, Does The Watcher pick up straight after the events of Guardians of the Source? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
April 8, 2025 at 7:13 PM
In the first book, Callen, the main character succeeded in befriending a gargoyle – Zariel. She made him a Guardian to deal with the immediate threat, but he’s had little of the proper training that a Guardian would normally have before taking their oath #ukteenchat
1, Could you please tell us a little bit about your new book in the Gargoyles series, The Watcher, please? @tamsinmori.bsky.social #ukteenchat
