US is hosting the World Cup and Olympics, but I can see a lot of professional associations just pushing members not to host in the US any longer.

Oh they'll still have those (they don't need your physical phone) but not having your emails, pics, PII etc on a physical device they can open is starting to be a smarter move. Hell, I'm a US citizen and they can't force me to open my phone, and I still won't take my main one with me 😂

Quite simply, they won't. The US immigration staff isn't trained, capable, or equipped to do intensive work on this scale. Even the cowards looking forward to being racist pricks will be so far out of their depth, it will be a nightmare.
