i remember this being a really common problem among popular leftists and their fans (especially of the edgy variety) where you weren't allowed to criticize them or else it was encouraging "infighting". and then years later many of them were exposed for genuinely harmful behavior.

In your life, remember that empathy and kindness is always the way forward. No one needs to be broken out of their identity unwillingly. Especially if youre both already mutually happy.

i am going to do more bug art eventually because i love bugs but i am honestly baffled by the way people will just treat my bug art as the most disgusting and morally reprehensible thing ever, and then tell me they adored it and my demon and angels comics are the new morally reprehensible art.
