I've tried gradient maps a few times and also struggle to get a good, natural color and end up having to do all sorts of additional coloring madness to make it look okay. People who can use gradient maps well are magical.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't know anything about this game, and you're the only big Doom fan that I know, so there's nobody else to lump you up with in my mind. It's just the Gloomy game.

So true. They always make it look so easy, but mine always turn into a muddy, desaturated mess or overly saturated disaster, or all my shading somehow disappears under the color and I have to redo it all anyway. 😩
