“Created” is a bit of a stretch - they were already existing Maiar that he corrupted. It would be safe to say that most were killed in the War of Wrath at the end of the First Age

The fact that you can use a drone nowadays to get similar shots to what they had to use helicopters during filming is wild. And fantastic.

Loved the book, loved Serkis’ prose and poetry narration. Can’t say that I was a fan of his singing, though

If Maryland is currently gerrymandered to favour Republicans, then making those maps actually fair is indeed fair. It’s a nuanced question that does not lend itself to easy headlines though

To be fair, the headline is a bit clickbait-y - they almost to be nowadays

If you listen to their discussion, they are very much not white washing Ben Shapiro. While they acknowledge that he’s speaking truth now, they very much highlight his role in bringing in these people, giving them a platform and helping make them popular, so he shouldn’t now be surprised

Tucker Carlson seems more likely to me. Not that he's much of an improvement.

Does "just about" include Liz and Dick Cheney? (I've found some of the sentiments expressed about the latter on here disappointing)

Australia’s a federation of states that were founded and established at different times as well - it shows in how well thought out our national elections are. You know, compulsory, preferential voting with elections run by and electoral boundaries set by an independent, apolitical commission :-)

Is this exactly how AOC won her first congressional race against the #3 House Democrat incumbent? Really, isn’t it how every race should be run? It’s why I think @katmabu.bsky.social has a real shot in her Chicago race

You left out Broken Hill, which is in New South Wales but operates in the same time zone as South Australia since it’s closer to Adelaide than Sydney

Yeah, the more urbanised states like daylight saving since it gives us more daylight in the afternoon and less at 4am in the morning. The more traditionally rural states don’t like the way it disrupts their cows. Western Australia trialled it for a few years but they chose to not continue with it

Hey! You try getting to level 11,676. My sister of course is well ahead of me - she was over 15,000 last time I looked

I doubted it until that footage at the 1.15 mark. It does make a certain sense, but clearly they realised that having Sauron physically appear was inconsistent with pretty much the rest of the films even if it was a nice call back to the very start. The smart cave troll was a less imperfect solution

One simple thing I like to do occasionally is check that the references are cited correctly - url, author, date etc. And that they exist, of course.

I also wish they’d give the link to the relevant credit. Especially as they reuse stuff occasionally as well

Those people would be alone and isolated within the party. Which is exactly what happened with Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. It's a noble idea to stay and fight, but there's a tremendous personal cost.

We didn't want to give our oldest a pacifier: it was taking 15? 30? minutes every night to get him to sleep. I don't recall how old he was or how frazzled we were when we gave him one for the first time and he went to sleep straight away. It was a revelation.

It’s a good start, but you’ve still gotta ask the questions about what industrial food production practices are being used - this article is from 4 years ago but I doubt if much has changed; if anything, it’s probably gotten worse under Trump www.theguardian.com/environment/...

But if you get sick, that’s your fault and you don’t deserve any govt handouts. Those are for big bankers and investors who gamble with other people’s money to make themselves rich.
