Iirc he also played Jed Clampett in the Beverly Hillbillies movie which I *remember* enjoying as a kid but I've no idea if it's held up

Yeah that's the biggest issue with most Ernest movies. The Ernest parts are the great stupid fun but then you get a subplot to try and pad out the movie and that's what brings it down.
