3) It is wildly naive to think that the GOP in 2025 is acting in what they believe is the best interests of their constituents, which is what this whole idea of moving towards the center relies on. The two parties do not exist on some magical ideological number line together.

That is how a lot of red states are. It’s not helpful to treat the residents as a monolith. Iowa was a swing state not so long ago and there are a lot of people doing good work there. They certainly aren’t morons.

In the 2020 election, Ernst’s opponent won Johnson county (Iowa City) by over 40 points. 48% of the state voted for someone besides Ernst.

You do not have to redeem anyone’s actions to make them deserving of basic rights and freedoms, nor should you. If someone has to be “good” in order to deserve their humanity, you will forever be moving the goalposts and forever bending a knee to the arbiter du jour of good and evil.

You can believe that everyone deserves the right to a fair trial. That does not mean you condone the crime. You can believe that no one deserves to suffer from gun violence. That does not mean you have to condone a victim’s hate speech.

How easy is it for them to terminate a CBA? Based on the OPM memo sent out as a follow-up, it doesn’t sound like they actually know. The directive to agencies is to consult their General Counsel about how to implement the order.
