Generally long lasting but avoid chucking it on a hot hot wash and allow it to dry over a clothes horse rather than a radiator or tumble dryer. Otherwise the fibres could melt.

Not sure I completely understand the question, but as a budget and self taught knitter/crocheter here's what I've picked up: the acrylic yarns tend to be twisted strands of polyester/nylon/polyacrylonitrile rather than spun like more natural fibres and are usually about 60-80% acrylic.
