His servants are cared for, but for each man under the House's protection there are thousands more that are still stuck in the most dire of circumstances right across the Imperium, the country built upon the backs of the indentured. He can vaguely motion towards peace and a freer society, but he is barely a graze on the side of Tevinter convention - these conventions will be worn down until they fray into nothing eventually, but at the rate he tries it the process will far outstrip his lifespan, if not the lifespan of the Imperium as a whole. It is the inconsequence of it all that gets to him, and the way he can do nothing about it, has no ability to make the improvements that he can see are desperately needed. It is a thought that quickly sours him on the position he has worked so hard to achieve; all that work he put in to become the Maker's conduit, and yet he is held back from actually being able to embody the ideals he preaches of. Maddening, truly maddening, and he can feel it simmering under his breastbone as he diligently leads the sermons, throws the balls, conducts the festivities and the ceremonies that he must. He does not let it affect his own feelings and worship towards the Maker, still allows himself to be shaped by His guiding hand as he should and does not let the frustrations turn him away from that - it is instead the system of the religion that has him jaded, pulling pieces off of him with every little thing he cannot fix until there is not much there other than apathy.

sneaking in whilst it’s still #DAFanFriday with a wip (a very rough first draft wip 😅) of a stories of thedas prompt, seeing as that starts in about 35 mins!
The dwarf does not speak a word as the wardens slowly wind their way up and out of the warrens of the Deep Roads. Indeed, she barely even looks up, gaze quite firmly fixed on the floor and her feet moving as she traverses it. She is a far cry from the princess he had met barely two days ago, Duncan thinks. He remembers her at the feast, proud of her work in becoming a commander but a far cry from prideful, nothing of arrogance in the woman but she knew well her prowess on the field, knew in herself that she would be able to command, and command well. And Duncan could see it too, even though he had never seen her at the fore of an army, had never seen her in a fight. But her father had, and Duncan had seen the pride in his eyes as he called her to his side, his daughter, and bestowed upon her one of the greatest gifts in the dwarven empire of Orzammar. She did not seem to have much pride in her now, defeated by the trickery of her brother, and the betrayal of those that had been at her side to reclaim the Aeducan thaig - she had told him it all, and it had been a sorry tale indeed. But it is not to say that there is no fight in her left - she may be leaving behind everything she has ever known, but she has pledged herself to the cause of the Grey Wardens, and he has no qualms that she will see it through, as much as she can. And perhaps, even in time, she might come to lead the armies of the Grey, might come to wield the Wardens against the evils of the Blight.
