I have wondered this for decades. And unlike Canadians, they're VERY attached to having the big gathering *on the day*. It has always struck me as extremely impractical.

A friend moved here from the US & was astonished that we're happy to have Thanksgiving dinner on Mon, Sun, or even Sat, no big.

I don’t typically do Yanksgiving, but “project manage this fucker” is my approach to Rosh Hashanah dinners, Passover seders, etc. And also to when I am visiting my parents and my mom decides to “have a couple of people over” (i.e., to host a large NYE party or similar).
