The show should have focused on far fewer players. Valya, Tula, Lila, Desmond and the Corrino House. Nothing more. Save Harkonen plot line for S2 and not waste the Mark Addy cameo on a 2 episode side plot. Absolutely no face dancer in this season and don’t name drop the Ixians on a whim. Frustrating

Would be better if I liked the flashback contents more, but we need to be in the present! A lot of story left to tell in 3 eps!!

We have a mysterious pyromancer, power struggle in the imperium, a princess who is about to join the sisterhood, instability on Arrakis, rebellion(?), rogue machinists and now a Harkonen subplot we need to start focusing this story, I feel.

We exchanged some posts a few days ago, and now I’m starting to sour. This episode really didn’t do it for me. It’s an exposition drop just as the main plot should be rolling. The Atreides twist was fine, but I don’t really care about their Harkonen blood so much I care about the sisterhood.

I found Denzel’s whole plot really compelling. Not a groundbreaking work by any means, but an enjoyable, ahistorical, action ride.

Herbert very intentionally made everything monopolies both to simplify his universe and convey consolidation of power and wealth. He really wrote everything with a purpose which is super apparent by book 4.

Practically, they showed that to remind the audience what happened to Dorotea. If we’re questioning her motivation, then it would be her finding out the Harkonens seized control of the sisterhood. Other memory is the most fantastical part of Dune and Frank kinda made rules so he could break them.

I’m also holding out hope that there is someone behind Desmond. I think he has been “programmed” by some organization grasping for control over the emperor (think Hayt) I’m likely missing something from your write-up, but when so much is still unexplained, I’m not too fond of being dismissive.

Wasn’t able to read the whole thing, but I think we should be careful not to jump the gun. I personally saw nothing wrong with the spice agony at all. In fact, Dorothea’s vengeance from the beyond the grave was reminiscent of Alia and the Baron in Children of Dune. Abomination!

Valya would then set up the breeding program to create an entirely biological Desmond using the Atreides bloodline starting with Keiran. Kinda tracks but could def use some tweaks.

I’m currently leaning proto-Kwisatz Haderach with tech improvement. Death by worm, regeneration, Ixian microwave chip in the brain that lets him roast folks. But that’s a lot haha. “Born twice” doesn’t seem symbolic. Motivations would also track. Ix/Tleilaxu would hate BG and rival machinists.
