Anyway, one of my new year's resolutions is to refuse to justify myself and my choices to ppl acting in bad faith. I think a lot of users on this website would benefit from this one Cool Trick

lol nah, it's helpful to see what ppl are talking about when I'm planning social media posts. Plus the Blacksky posts are still good

Trust me, I'll disappear into the mist again soon

Me yesterday: I mean y'all can do whatever you want but this "Americans are irredeemable monsters" rhetoric is starting to feel like a pretense for something else

me just now: um, holy shit the pretense dropped that fast???

no worries, I understand what you meant. it makes sense to chat with someone casually about their interests and writing/feedback approach before you send anything to them. not everyone gives feedback the way you need to receive it
December 21, 2025 at 1:45 AM
correct! there are different types of editing, so you *could* hire someone to give you specialized feedback on big picture issues, but it makes the most financial sense to wait until you're confident you're on the right track

in the beta stage, you could end up scraping a lot of it

there are a lot of online writing groups that exist exactly for this: connecting you with people who would be happy to critique your work from a place of good faith b/c they're voracious readers
December 21, 2025 at 1:12 AM
I'm not aware of people paying beta readers; you'd usually just hire an editor in that case.

beta readers are typically friends or other writers who agree to give feedback as either part of an exchange or just b/c they like your work/genre
