Registered Dem in KY doesn't mean a lot, since there are a bunch of folks who are still registered Dem who haven't voted for a Dem since Carter. Until recently KY had a Dem plurality despite being a bright red state. (Currently 48% R to 42% D)

It is tough to do. And where it's happened there's been resistance from both police and firefighters. But once you get it working, it seems to work well, and the extra training/certification costs are paid for by the lack of brutality lawsuits.

I stayed on Twitter for a long time after most of it was toxic because baseball Twitter was still so good, but eventually it was impossible. Luckily most folks migrated here although there are some voices I really miss.

The best solution to the police problem I've seen is public safety departments that cross-train their members and rotate them through police, firefighting, and EMS roles. Harder to think about "civilians" as the enemy when you spend two thirds of your time actually saving lives.

It is still a fond memory... even if it was a portent of some things to come.
