5) 3rd - Have the sampling frequency categories changed over time?

4) 2nd - What is the frequency of monitoring and the number of stations at said frequency and parameter?

3) 1st - A simple data inventory. How many samples per year by site (& network) and parameter? Some parameters are sampled more than others within different networks.

Probably the last good weekend to catch the autumn colors, albeit muted due to the drought. As expected, there was a water/limnological based theme 😉. We visited ESF Pond 1 in Heiberg Memorial Forest, Clark Reservation State Park, Chittenango Falls State Park, and Nelson Swamp unique area (no pic).

Checked out Lake #George for #WorldLakeDay 🌊 Just 60 mi from Lake #Champlain, but water levels tell a different story: while trending down its not as drastic as Champlain 📉

Following up on Lake Champlain levels: USGS data show major tributaries (Saranac, Ausable, Boquet, Lamoille, Winooski, Otter) are at record-low summer flows. Most <5th percentile. Drought or shifting climate? 🌦️🌊 #fedopendata

@dsmccormick.bsky.social‬ Thanks for the suggestion ... here is a revised version with the turbo color scale. I think I like this one better!! It definitely contrasts the categories more.

Lake Champlain is at its lowest for this time of year in over 50 years, much earlier than it should be.

To visualize this, I created a calendar plot that bins 50 years of lake stage data into quantiles.

"Sorry for the delay in responding to your message, I've been watching a live stream"

I actually used that today as a colleague texted me and it took me a while to respond. 😂😂

How do people leave this (picture #1) and say I'm moving to "paradise" (picture #2)? It made me nauseous looking at where I used to live and grateful that we are no longer there.

A beautiful blooming Columbine (Aquilegia app). Not the native but excited to see its beautiful bloom. We will still be planting the native and slowly transitioning this area to native dominate. Plus we don't want to completely rip out everything the prior owner loving cared for.

Beautiful!! In the US (central NY) our native downy Hawthorns (Crataegus mollis) have bedazzled me with their blooms. Our woodland is filled with them.

On our evening walk last night we came across this plant. We've been trying to ID it but the closest we've come is Sorbus americana (American Mountain Ash). The American cousin to the European Mountain Ash ... as in Rowan trees!! 🤞🤞 We're right, I would love to have a native "Rowan".

Friday even after work we decided to go for a short hike, so we packed the dogs up and headed 20 minutes south to Spruce Pond in the Morgan Hill State Forest. Absolutely stunning ... still can believe we live here.

Last night's sunset was absolutely amazing, which helped ease the ending of a challenging day.

Trying something new ... I started a substack to document and share the new garden.

Is it just me or was last week's episode of @gardenersworldmag.bsky.social (pic#1) reminiscent of the 2011 episode (pic#2) of #MontyDon pruning the limes? Oh how they have grown!! ...the limes I mean 😁

It's been a couple of days in the new house, some of the "WTF did we do" has passed now that we are starting to bang things out (2 contractors scheduled for basement & foundation repairs), getting ready to epoxy the garage floor and paint the living room. But the real reason we jumped in is this

After 22+ emotion filled hours we left what we knew to embrace what we don't (caveat, I grew up in the NE and went to undergrad in the Midwest, so I know most). With 2 dogs, 4 birds and some plants in tow we arrived at our new home. Now we wait for the rest of our stuff to arrive ...

After yesterday's rather emotional 10k (and later leg workout), I decided for a shorter 5k this morning after a less than stellar "push" workout (chest, shoulders and triceps). Still hitting a good pace, hopefully in the next couple of months my pace will get faster.

Spring is getting an early start ...
The beautiful but deadly spotted water hemlock (Cicuta maculata) is taking full advantage of the warmer weather.

The mighty mycelium!!! It's that time of the year when dog vomit slime mold (Fuligo septica) occurs frequently in the garden on our wood chip/mulch paths.

I don't know who gave it it's common name but I hope their dog is (was) ok 🤣😂
