Owners of collapsed oil refinery Prax Lindsey took £11.5m in pay & dividends.

Workers will suffer.

UK law on dividends is a mess, easily circumvented, as shown by BHS/Carillon, water companies.

No central enforcer of company law, auditors ineffective.

No corporate governance reform in sight.

Barclays Bank tells customers to contact food banks as IT glitch disruption enters third day.

It made £6.6bn pre-tax profit last year but can't produce a robust IT system.

I bet no one told directors to go to food banks.

To appease public anger fines are announced on England & Wales water companies but are not paid.

Companies are allowed to fix the amount & timing of their own fines.

Any wonder companies dump sewage, don't plug leaks, fleece customers.

It is "corrupt", what would you call it?
The water industry shows how the state indulges corporations to the detriment of society
Since 1989, water companies have been the subject of over 1,100 criminal convictions, but governments are content for them to control the industry.

Erudite post from Ms Fairfax. ChatGPT tells me, "Helena Fairfax is worth recommending if you enjoy uplifting romantic fiction and well-researched historical works. Her novels are praised for their engaging characters, vivid settings, and heartwarming stories."
