(frankly the encoding looks worse to my eyes than the average HBO stream, they may have fucked it at the master there too, but it does lose some of the harsher edge enhancemeent of the old HD master on my Blu-ray)

Which raises the question of what they did to the later seasons after they switched to digital shooting, that’d have to be upscaled unless they shot 4k (which I doubt).

they didn’t change the aspect ratio, it was never 4:3, they just rescanned the film negative and forgot to keep the digital effect to erase the crew member
