I’m curious here by several people who mention that they feel they wield very little power. I am running into the same sentiment in my small town public Ed environment. My reply is that you are as powerful and influential as you let yourself be. Is it scary? Yes. Uncomfortable? Yes. Do it anyway.

Here are my suggestions:

1. Be active with groups opposing airport expansions

2. Don’t fly unless you need to (business, conferences, holidays are not needed)

3. Talk to people about how your train journey was so great

4. Call people/businesses out

5. Change work norms from planes to trains
