Ziggy and Bunny think waking up on cold mornings is massively overrated.

It's Samhain, and the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest now, so light a fire to keep the darker souls away, and leave some food on offer for the spirits of your loved ones lost, who might be out and wandering on this November Eve.

One of my favourite places to find a moment’s peace in London. Here’s the great blue heron in Hyde Park’s Italian Gardens.

Tell them, because our fathers lied."

I was angry enough about Books3 pirating 8 of my books to train AI without my consent back in the day. There is no word for how enraged this makes me feel. They even have my latest book, just published, and a heap of my books in their foreign translations. No consequences. Never any consequences.

Tonight I'll be joined by my friend & fellow author @annaguirre.bsky.social, who is technically supposed to be interviewing me, although I suspect we'll end up simply chatting about all things bookish and writerly 📖😊 Please come join us at 6 pm CT.

💔 What a gifted writer we lost today. I first met Andrew Pyper in 1999. He was always such a genuine & generous man, and the only thing greater than his talent was his love for his family. My thoughts are with them all right now, especially with his wife Heidi and their children, Maude and Ford.

Not sure what it says about me, but Robert Louis Stevenson. As a small, asthmatic girl who longed to be a writer, he inspired me. His poetry is woven through my childhood. His novels transported me. And his words about writing remind me it’s okay to write what I do, in the way that I do. #Hero

All of this.

And may I offer, as someone who waitressed for years & was a secretary before that, this little gem from Agatha Christie’s autobiography, in which her mother gives the best advice in a nutshell: never be rude to people whose position prevents them from being rude back to you. End of.
