It's pretty similar with the scifi genre. At this point, I need some major convincing to even consider reading something before 1990. Ursula LeGuin and Octavia Butler were such breathes of fresh air when I finally got to their books.

Well, we know what context, and I tried to explain that it sort of meant 'to fawn over' or like 'to give high praise' or something to that extent, but when she expressed confusion for how it could mean that or where the phrase came from, I refused to explain further.
