A friend was telling me that her son's middle school English class is piloting a "closed AI" system where the kids put their rough drafts in and the AI gives them writing feedback. The feedback pushes them towards that flat voice-less AI style. I find this all horrifying.

Plus it sends so many fricking email notifications that he's losing track of his emails. One teacher communicated almost entirely in comments on submitted assignments and he missed all of them.

I tried to help my kid sort something out on Google classroom last spring and I got totally overwhelmed--I'm a teacher who also uses the platform and I found it so challenging to handle on the student end.

It's crazy! I feel like we're one of the last real trick or treat neighborhoods. It's a mixed-density neighborhood, the single family houses get a lot of trick or treaters from the big apartment buildings and public housing complexes. Plus some of my neighbors go all-out so there's a reputation.

We get several hundred trick or treaters, and we do bite-sized candy but let them take two or three pieces, and the little kids get so incredibly excited about taking two pieces, it's really fun.

We just watched Sneakers a couple of weeks ago! It holds up really well, and even the snarky middle-schooler liked it.
